normal の語源・成り立ち Etymology
語源はラテン語norma「大工の直角定規」で、norm-「基準」+ -al「〜に関する」と分けられます。つまりnormalは本来「定規に合っている」が核で、normやenormous（規格外の）にも同じnormaが見えます。
