ラテン語 dissecāre（切り離す）から：dis-（離れて）+ secāre（切る）。「バラバラに切り分ける」が原義で、解剖の意に。同根語に section（区分）、insect（体が切れ込んだ虫）。
Dissections comes from dissection, from Latin dissecare, meaning "to cut apart," made from dis- "apart" and secare "to cut." At first the idea was simply dividing something by cutting it into pieces.
