execrableはラテン語execrari「呪う」に由来し、ex-「外へ」+ sacer「聖なる」が下敷き。もとは「神聖なものの外に追いやるほど憎む」で、転じて「ひどい・忌まわしい」になった。execrateやconsecrateが同根。
Execrable comes from Latin execrabilis, from execrari, meaning "to curse." The verb is built on ex- "out" and a root related to sacer "sacred," with the older sense of putting something outside what is holy or acceptable.
