他人の事柄に不必要に干渉または介入することで、本人の意図や状況を無視して口を出すことを指します。多くの場合その行為は迷惑を与えたり、関係を損ねたりするため、控えるべき行動です。
To meddle means to become involved in something that is not your business, often in an unwanted way. It usually suggests interfering with other people's private matters or decisions. The word has a negative meaning.

meddle は古フランス語 medler「混ぜる・関わる」を経て、ラテン語 miscere「混ぜる」にさかのぼる語です。関連語は mix, medley で、本来は「物事に自分を混ぜ入れる」ことなので、そこから余計な干渉をする意味へ発展したと見えます。
Meddle came through Old French medler, meaning "to mix" or "involve," from Latin miscere, meaning "to mix." The older image was of mixing oneself into a matter.
