meddle は古フランス語 medler「混ぜる・関わる」を経て、ラテン語 miscere「混ぜる」にさかのぼる語です。関連語は mix, medley で、本来は「物事に自分を混ぜ入れる」ことなので、そこから余計な干渉をする意味へ発展したと見えます。
