薄く水蒸気が漂う状態。視界が悪くなるほど空中に細かい水滴が浮かんでいます。
Mist is a very light cloud close to the ground, made of tiny drops of water in the air. It is thinner than fog, so people can usually still see through it. It is common in the morning or in wet, cool weather.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
mist はまず misty（霧のかかった、ぼんやりした）とセットで覚えると定着しやすいです。fog より薄く、景色がうっすら白くにじむ程度の霧を指すことが多いので、「重い fog、軽い mist」と強さの差で整理すると覚えやすい。morning mist, mountain mist のように自然描写でよく出ます。比喩では eyes misted over で「涙やかすみで目がぼやける」。つづりは miss と似ていますが意味は全く別なので注意。
Link `mist` with `misty`. A `misty morning` sounds lighter and softer than heavy `fog`, so think: heavy fog, light mist. Be careful not to mix it up with `miss` because the spelling is close but the meaning is completely different.
