moot は、文脈によって二つの意味で使われる形容詞です。まだ結論が出ておらず「議論の余地がある」という意味と、すでに状況が変わっていて「議論しても実際的な意味がない」という意味があります。法律分野では moot court のように「模擬の」という意味でも使われます。
Moot usually means no longer important or not worth discussing because the situation has changed or the decision no longer matters. In some formal or British contexts, it can also mean open to discussion or debate. Because these meanings differ, you should pay attention to the context.

まず「議論のテーブルに載る論点」として覚えると軸がぶれません。そこから 1) まだ決着しておらず議論の余地がある、2) 状況が変わって今さら論じても実益がない、の二方向に広がります。`moot point` で最頻出。法律・討論の文脈では前者、問題が消えた後の会話では後者になりやすいです。`moot court` も『仮想の争点を議論する法廷練習』なので、語の中心に“争点”があるとつかめます。`debatable` は単に議論できる感じですが、`moot` は『論じること自体』への視線が強い語です。
Remember the fixed phrase `moot point`, because that is where this word appears most often. Think of a point brought to the discussion table, and then two uses grow from that: still open to debate, or no longer worth debating. The word keeps the feeling of an issue being argued over.

moot は Old English gemot（会合）に由来し、もとは『集まって議論する場に載る』という語でした。そこから『議論の対象』を経て、米語では『もう論じても実益がない』の意味へ進み、moot court や folkmoot に古い核が残ります。
