psychical はギリシャ語 psyche「心・魂・息」に由来し、psych- に形容詞語尾 -ical が付いた語。psychology や psychic と同根で、目に見えない内面の働きを指すため、「精神的な」は身体ではなく魂や意識の側だと腑に落ちる。
Psychical comes from Greek psyche, meaning "mind," "soul," or originally "breath." English built it from psych- with the adjective ending -ical, like in psychic and psychology. The word came to describe things connected with the inner mind or soul rather than the body.
