海や低地を埋め立てて新しい土地を造成すること。または、失われた権利・資源・領土を取り戻すプロセス。
Reclamation is the process of making land or another area usable again. It is often used for creating land from the sea or for improving land damaged by industry, flooding, or waste. In formal use, it can also mean getting something back.

reclamation は re-「元へ・再び」+ claim の名詞形で、claim はラテン語 clamare「叫ぶ・要求する」にさかのぼります。海や荒れ地を「取り戻す」ように呼び戻す感覚が「埋め立て」や「開墾」につながり、exclaim や proclaim にも同じ声の語根があります。
Reclamation comes from reclaim, with re- meaning "back" or "again." Claim goes back to Latin clamare, "to call out" or "to cry aloud," so the older sense was of calling something back or demanding it again. From that, reclamation developed the meaning of recovering land or making damaged land usable again; related words include proclaim and exclaim.
