rejectionはラテン語rejectioに由来し、re-「後ろへ」+ jacere「投げる」+ -ion「行為」から成ります。相手の申し出などを“投げ返す”感覚が拒否の意味につながり、同語根にprojectやinjectがあります。
Rejection comes from Latin rejectio, from re- meaning "back" and jacere meaning "to throw." The image behind the word is of throwing something back, which developed into the idea of refusing or not accepting something. It shares the same root as project, inject, and eject.
