布を針と糸で縫い合わせて、衣服や小物を作ったり直したりすること。家庭での手縫いやミシンがけなどを含む一般的な「裁縫」を指し、工場での製造を表す「縫製」より広く日常的な語。趣味として楽しむ場合にも、実用的な補修を行う場合にも使われる。
