ariseは古英語arisanにさかのぼり、a-（上へ・外へ）+ rise（立つ）と見られます。核にあるのは「上へ立ち上がる」という像で、そこから「起こる・生じる」へ意味が広がりました。riseやraiseも同じ核を持ちます。
Arise goes back to Old English arisan. It is built from a prefix meaning "up" or "out" and a verb meaning "rise." The original picture is of standing up, and from that it widened to mean that something begins or comes into being. It is closely related to rise and shares the same basic idea as raise.
