effect の語源・成り立ち Etymology
「effect」はラテン語effectus、もとはefficere「作り出す」から来た語。ex-/ef-「外へ」＋facere「作る」で、「外に結果として現れたもの」がそのまま効果になる。factやmanufactureも同じfacere系なので、行為が形になった語だと納得できる。
Effect comes from Latin effectus, from efficere, meaning "to bring about" or "produce." That verb is built from ex-, meaning "out," and facere, meaning "to make," so the basic idea is something made outward as a result. This is why effect came to mean the result that appears after an action; fact and manufacture share the same Latin root.
