ギリシャ神話に登場する、女性の顔と鳥の体をもつ怪物を指す語。転じて、きつい口調で責め立てる口やかましい女性や、意地悪で攻撃的な女性を侮蔑的に表すこともある。
In mythology, a harpy is a creature with features of both a woman and a bird. In modern informal use, it can also mean a woman who is very harsh, unpleasant, or constantly complaining. This second meaning is insulting and should be used with care.
