Identical means exactly the same in every important way. It is used when two or more things match completely in appearance, form, or details. It is stronger than words like similar or alike.

identify（見分けて特定する）や identity（同一性・身元）を知っていると覚えやすい語です。identical は「見分けようとしても違いが出てこない＝同一の」という感覚。same よりも一致度が高く、「完全に同じ」という響きがあります。an identical copy, two identical twins のように、見た目・内容・条件がぴたりと一致するときによく使います。similar は「似ている」だけで同一ではないので、そこを区別すると定着しやすいです。
