解説 Definition
医学で、便・耳垢・歯などが体内のある部位に詰まったり、強くはまり込んだりして正常な状態を妨げていることを指す名詞。腸での便の詰まりだけでなく、埋伏歯や耳垢の閉塞など幅広い文脈で使われる。

impaction は impact「押し込む・詰まらせる」に名詞語尾 -ion が付いた語です。impact はラテン語 impactus、さらに in-「中へ」+ pangere「突き刺す・固定する」に由来し、compact や pact も同根なので、「中へ押し込まれて詰まる」という像が意味に直結しています。
