親が子どもの判断を尊重せず親の意思で決定するように、権力者が一般人に対して保護的かつ支配的に振る舞う政治・社会体制。個人の自由よりも権威者の判断を優先させる。
Paternalism is the practice of limiting another person's freedom because you believe it is for their own good. It is often used about governments, companies, or parents making decisions for others. The word usually suggests that this control may be too strong or unfair.
