利益

Money that remains after a business or person has paid the costs of making or selling something. It means the money gained, not the total sales amount.

古いフランス語の profit を通じて英語に入った語です。もとはラテン語で「前に進む」「役に立つ」という考えをもつ語に由来し、そこから商売で得られるもうけを表すようになりました。
Profit came into English through Old French profit. It goes back to Latin words connected with moving forward or being useful, and later came to mean financial gain.
