rewiring は re-「再び」+ wire「針金・導線」+ -ing から成り、wire は古英語 wir に由来するゲルマン系の語です。つまり『線をもう一度通し直すこと』で、wireless や hardwired と比べると、見えないつながりを作り替える語だと分かります。
