savvy の語源・成り立ち Etymology
スペイン語 saber「知る」や sabe「彼は知っている」から英語に入った語です。さらにラテン語 sapere「賢い、味わう」にさかのぼり、sapient や sage とも遠く関係します。
Savvy came into English from Spanish saber, meaning "to know," or from the form sabe, meaning "he knows." It goes back further to Latin sapere, which meant "to be wise" and also "to taste." Because of that history, it is distantly related to words like sapient and sage.
