「therefore」は古英語の there（そこに、その点で）+ fore（前に、理由として）から成り、「その前にある事実から」が原義です。before や foresee の fore と同根で、出来事を前に押し出して「したがって」へつながります。
Therefore was formed in Old English from there and fore. Fore is the same element seen in words like before and foresee, with the sense of "in front" or "because of what comes before." The whole word originally meant something like "from that fact before," and then became a word for logical result.
