地中に埋まっているものを掘り出すこと。また、隠れた事実を発見すること。
Unearthing means finding something by digging it out of the ground or discovering something that was hidden. It is often used for archaeology, history, or information that had not been known before.

earth が「土」だと分かれば、unearth は「土の中から外へ出す」と映像で覚えやすいです。まずは遺跡・化石・宝物を掘り出す場面で固定し、そこから比喩的に「埋もれていた事実や証拠を見つけ出す」へ広げると定着します。unearthed evidence, unearthing ancient remains のような形でよく出ます。discover より、手間をかけて隠れたものを掘り当てる感じが強く、excavate よりは「発見」側に重心があります。
