distal は解剖学で、体幹や付着部、または基準点から遠い位置にあることを表します。例えば腕では、手首は肘よりも肩から遠いので distal です。反対語は proximal で、「近位の」という意味です。
Distal means farther away from the center of the body or from the place where something begins. It is often used in medicine and biology to describe body parts, such as bones, muscles, or nerves. It is the opposite of proximal.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
まず日常語の distant / distance を思い出すと、distal は「基準点から遠い側」とつながりやすいです。解剖では「体幹や付着部から見て遠いほう」で、反対は proximal。対で覚えると定着します。たとえば shoulder → elbow → wrist → fingers の順に行くほど distal。単に far ではなく、必ず“何かを基準にした位置関係”の語だと押さえると混同しません。
