あるものを全体の中に含めること、取り入れることを表す名詞。項目や条件を加えるという意味でも、誰かを排除せず社会や集団の中に受け入れるという「社会的包摂」の意味でも使われる。物理的・論理的な包含にも社会的参加の保障にも用いられる語である。
Inclusion is the act of making someone or something part of a group, system, or activity. It is often used when talking about giving all people a fair chance to join and be accepted. In formal contexts, it can also mean putting one thing inside another set, list, or document.

inclusion はラテン語 inclusio に由来し、in-「中へ」+ claudere「閉じる」から成ります。直訳すると「中に閉じ込めること」で、そこから「中に入れて一部にする」感覚が生まれ、「包含」という意味になりました。関連語は include, exclude です。
Inclusion comes from Latin inclusio, from includere, meaning "to shut in" or "enclose." Its parts are in- "in" and claudere "to close." The idea moved from physically closing something inside to the broader sense of putting someone or something within a group or whole; include and exclude share the same root.
