palsy は古フランス語を経てギリシャ語 paralysis にさかのぼり、para-「正常から外れて」+ lysis「ゆるむ・ほどける」が核です。paralyze や analysis と同じ lysis を含み、体の働きがほどけて力を失う感覚が、短い語形の奥に「麻痺」という意味を納得させます。
Palsy comes through Old French from Greek paralysis. The Greek roots are para- "away from normal" and lysis "loosening" or "breaking apart." The idea was that normal bodily control was loosened or lost, and the same lysis root appears in paralyze and analysis.
