目を細める

まぶしい光を避けたり、小さい文字や遠くの物を見ようとしたりするときに、まぶたを少し閉じて目の開きを狭くすることを指します。実際の視線や表情の動作を述べる語で、はっきり見ようとしている様子を含むことが多いです。
To squint means to look with your eyes partly closed, usually because the light is too bright or because you are trying to see something more clearly. It can also describe the action of narrowing the eyes to show doubt or close attention.
