ラテン語 apprehendere「つかむ・捕える」に由来し、ad-「〜へ」＋ prehendere「つかむ」から成ります。もとは「把握・理解」の意で、悪いことを先に心でつかむ感覚から「不安」へ発展しました。comprehend や prehensile も同根です。
Apprehension comes from Latin apprehendere, meaning "to seize" or "grasp," from ad- "to" and prehendere "to grasp."
