boor は中期オランダ語 boer「農夫・田舎者」と、古英語 gebur「農民」に重なる語です。もとは単に農村の人でしたが、都市側の偏見で『無作法な人』へずれました。Boer や boorish が同根で、身分語が性格評価に変わった例です。
Boor came from Middle Dutch boer, meaning "farmer" or "countryman," and it is related to Old English gebur, also meaning a peasant or farmer.
