To deal with something means to handle it or take action about it. It is very common for problems, tasks, difficult people, or challenging situations. In more formal English, it can also mean to discuss a subject or be about it.

deal はまず「取引する」で覚えていても、そこから「物事を扱う」という感覚に広げると deal with が入りやすいです。with が付くと「その相手・問題を相手にして処理する」。deal with a problem, deal with complaints の形でよく出ます。solve が「解決する」なのに対し、deal with は必ずしも完全解決でなく「対応する・さばく」でも使える、と区別すると定着します。

deal with の語源・成り立ち Etymology
deal は古英語 dǣlan「分ける・配る」、with は古英語 wiþ「向き合って」。分けると「相手と向き合って事を割り振る」で、問題を整理して片づける感覚から「対処する」になった。関連語に dole、dealing がある。
Deal comes from Old English dǣlan, meaning to divide or share out, and with comes from Old English wiþ, meaning against or in relation to. The older idea is of sorting things out while facing another person or situation. That sense grew into managing, handling, or working through something; dole and dealing are related words.
