噴出する

eruptはラテン語erumpereに由来し、e-「外へ」+ rumpere「破る」から成る語です。内側を破って外へ飛び出すのがeruptで、ruptureやinterruptにも同じrupt「破る」が入り、「噴き出す」動きがつかめます。
"Erupt" comes from Latin "erumpere," made from "e-" meaning out and "rumpere" meaning break. Its original sense was to break out by force from inside. That image of bursting through is still clear in the modern word, and the same root appears in "rupture" and "interrupt."
