impassive はフランス語 impassible を経て、ラテン語 in-「否定」+ pass-「苦しむ・感じる」+ -ive にさかのぼり、「情に動かされない」が原義です。passion や passive も同根で、感情を受けて揺れない人だから「無表情な」へつながると見えてきます。
