insubordination はラテン語 subordinare「下位に置く」が土台で、in-「否定」+ sub-「下」+ ordin-「整える」+ -ation です。つまり「下位の秩序に入らないこと」から「不服従」の意味になりました。subordinate や order が同じ語根です。
