解説 Definition
人や動物、または機械が学び、理解し、状況に応じて考える力を表す名詞。問題を解決したり新しいことを身につけたりする能力について述べるときに使う。単なる知識量ではなく、理解の速さや判断の的確さを含むことが多い。
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
intelligent（頭のよい）を知っていれば、intelligence はまず「学び、理解し、判断する力」とまとめて覚えると残りやすいです。知識をたくさん持っているだけでなく、状況を読んで問題を解く能力まで含む語です。artificial intelligence は「人工知能」、human intelligence は「人間の知能」。安全保障の「諜報・分析済み情報」もありますが、この行では情報そのものではなく、情報を理解して使う頭の働きが主役です。

intelligence は「知性」という意味もありますが、この文脈では国家や組織が安全保障や政策判断のために集める重要情報、またはそれを収集・分析する活動を指します。軍事・外交・治安分野で、相手の能力や計画、動向を把握する秘密性の高い情報という意味で使われます。
