lure は古フランス語 loirre に由来し、もとは鷹狩りで鳥を呼び戻すために振る羽飾りや疑似餌を指しました。関連語の allure も同根で、「相手をこちらへ引き寄せる道具」という原像が、釣りのルアーにも誘惑にもそのまま生きています。
Lure comes from Old French loirre. It first meant a bunch of feathers or a fake bait used in falconry to call a bird back. From that image of drawing something toward you, it later came to mean both a fishing bait and a temptation; allure is from the same root.
