解説 Definition
蘇生は、意識を失った人や心停止した人を生き返らせる、または生命の兆候を取り戻させるプロセスです。医学的には、心肺蘇生法などの応急処置を指します。
Resuscitation is the act of trying to make someone breathe again or recover after they stop breathing or their heart stops. It is a medical term often used in emergency care. It usually refers to methods such as CPR or other life-saving treatment.

resuscitation はラテン語 resuscitare に由来し、re-「再び」+ suscitare「呼び起こす・立ち上がらせる」から成る。直訳すると「もう一度起こす」で、resuscitate や incite にも同じ citare 系の「動かして目覚めさせる」感覚が残る。
Resuscitation comes from Latin resuscitare, meaning "raise again" or "revive." It combines re- "again" with suscitare, "to rouse, awaken, or stir up." The meaning moved from the general idea of waking or raising someone to the medical sense of bringing someone back to consciousness or life; compare resuscitate.
