traumatize の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ギリシャ語 trauma「傷」が語源で、traumat- に動詞化の -ize が付いて「傷を与える」が原義。身体の傷から心理的外傷へ意味が広がり、目に見えない傷も含むようになった。trauma や traumatic にも同じ「傷」の核がある。
"Traumatize" comes from Greek "trauma," meaning "wound," with the verb-forming ending "-ize." At first the idea was simply to wound, especially in a physical sense, but later it widened to include deep emotional or mental injury as well. "Trauma" and "traumatic" share the same root and still carry that central idea of a wound.
