まず基準になるのは use「使う」。そこから used は「使われた／使用済み」、unused は un- が付いてその逆で「まだ使われていない」と取れる。新品の箱、封の切られていない道具、空いたままの部屋など『用意はあるのに使われていない』場面と結びつけると残りやすい。unopened は「未開封」、useless は「役に立たない」で、unused はあくまで『未使用』という点が違う。
Build it from `use`: `used` means already used, and `unused` means the opposite. Think of a tool still in the box or a room that nobody uses. Do not confuse it with `unopened` or `useless` because `unused` only means not used yet.
