物体や人体の部分を固定する行為やプロセス。医学や工学分野で、怪我の治療や機械の安定化に使用される。
Immobilization is the act of stopping something or someone from moving. It is often used in medicine for injured body parts, but it can also be used in technical or military contexts.

まず mobile phone の mobile を思い出すと核がつかめます。mobile は「動ける・可動の」、immobile は「動けない」、immobilize は「動けなくする」、その名詞形が immobilization。医療では骨折部をギプスで固定して動きを止める処置、工学では部品や装置をずれないよう固定する文脈でよく出ます。stabilization が「安定させる」寄りなのに対し、こちらは「動きを封じる」感覚が前面に出る語です。
Start with `mobile`, which is about movement. Add `im-` to get `immobile` = not able to move, then `immobilize` = make something unable to move, and `immobilization` is the noun form. It often appears when a body part, tool, or machine must be kept from moving at all, not just made more stable.

immobilization は immobile「動かせない」と -ization「〜化」からでき、さらに in-「否定」+ mobilis「動ける」に分解できます。語の中心は「動ける状態をなくして固定すること」で、mobile や mobility も同じ mob-/mov-「動く」の仲間です。
Immobilization comes from immobilize, based on immobile, plus the noun ending -ation. Immobile goes back to Latin in- "not" and mobilis "movable," from the same root seen in mobile and mobility. The word developed the sense of making something no longer able to move or keeping it fixed.
