kind の語源・成り立ち Etymology
kind は古英語 gecynde/cynde に由来し、語根は kin と同じく「生まれ・血筋・性質」を表しました。そこから「同じ生まれの集まり」で kind が「種類」となり、kindred や kin を見ると、分類の語が血縁感覚から育ったとわかります。
Kind comes from Old English gecynde or cynde, from the same root as kin. That root was connected with birth, family, and natural character. From the idea of things "of the same nature or family," the word developed into its modern sense, and kindred still shows the older family link.
