validity は valid「有効な」に名詞化の -ity が付いた語で、valid はラテン語 validus「強い・力のある」、さらに valere「強い、価値がある」にさかのぼります。つまり「十分に力があって通用すること」が有効性で、関連語に value と valiant があります。
