consider の語源・成り立ち Etymology
「consider」はラテン語 considerare に由来し、con-「共に」+ sider-/sidus「星」から成る。sidereal や desire も同じ星の語根を持ち、昔は星をよく観察して判断したため、『星を見定める』感覚が『よく考える』になった。
Consider comes from Latin considerare, probably built from con- "with, together" and sidus or sider- "star." The original image may have been carefully observing the stars. From that sense of close observation, the word developed into "think about carefully" or "examine in the mind." The same star root appears in sidereal and is also connected historically with desire.
